Coursework Programs offered by the School of Electrical and Information Engineering
The School of Electrical and Information Engineering offers coursework programs leading to the Master of Engineering (ME). From 2009 the School proposes to offer an additional coursework program, the Master of Professional Engineering (MPE), which is a faculty-based initiative.
The generic Master of Engineering (ME) degree consists of 48 credit points, 1 year duration. There is the opportunity of completing 6 or 12 credit points as a thesis/project. You may choose units from one subject area or from related subject areas (including units from the specialised degrees) and even from schools other than the one in which you are studying. Masters' candidates cannot do more than 18 credit points external to the Faculty.
The specialised ME (xxx) degree is 48 credit points, 1 year (or its part time equivalent for local students). There is the opportunity of completing 6 or 12 credit points as a thesis/project or as electives. These degrees are specialised and candidates must complete the prescribed units to qualify.
EIE offers the generic ME and three specialisations:
- Power Engineering
- Network Engineering or
- Wireless Engineering.

In addition, from 2009, the School proposes to offer several scholarships to ME students who undertake a project as part of their degree. Scholarships have a value of $12000 and will be paid towards tuition fees.
