IEEE Student Paper Contest 

The IEEE NSW Section is offering to sponsor an internal student paper contest (SPC) at the University of Sydney one for postgraduate and one for undergraduate students. A Contest Committee has been formed to conduct the contest, evaluate and Pass to The IEEE NSW section their recommendation regarding results of the contest.

Eligibility

Open to IEEE Student Members and non IEEE Student members. The papers may be on any engineering subject in the field of interest of IEEE (within the scope of IEEE transactions).

The first author must be a student. Papers submitted to this Contest should not have been published in any other publications yet. As entries are not published the same work may be submitted to other competitions, conferences or journals in the future. 

Submissions

Your full paper must be submitted by 11 September 2009 to the e-mail address of the organizer: dylan.lu@ee.usyd.edu.au or alistair@ee.usyd.edu.au. 

Criteria

Based on the instructions for the NSW student paper contest (http://www.ewh.ieee.org/r10/nsw/subpages/students/students.htm) the committee has finalized the criteria for this student paper contest: problem statement, significance of contribution and originality, solution method, discuss ion and development of argument, spelling, grammar, readability, organisation & layout, and technically and mathematically correct.

Format

The format of the paper is similar to any publications of IEEE Transactions or magazines (see any IEEE Transactions). The paper should be typewritten on one side only double column format using font of 10 (Times New Roman) on A4 size and should not exceed 10 pages including figures and tables. An electronic copy must also be submitted together with your hardcopy. You can check the format of IEEE Transactions / magazines

This should provide a well structured, clear and concise presentation of the subject matter including an introduction, the main body and the conclusion with supporting tables and figures. 

Headings and subheadings should be numbered as in any of the IEEE journals. Figures and Tables should be neat and tidy, consecutively numbered, captioned and contained within the text at the appropriate places. 

Equations should be consecutively numbered with the number inparenthesis, opposite the equations. References suitably numbered, should be provided at the end with their reference numbers given within square brackets at the appropriate places in the main text.

Appendices: Detailed mathematical proofs, development of equations etc. which are subordinate to the main argument in the body of the paper, should be given in the appendices, with reference in the main text.

Prizes

Two prizes for the UG (SPC) and for the PG (SPC) will be awarded as follows.

Undergraduate Contest

Postgraduate Contest
Deadline October 2009  
Prizes 1st Prize AUD 100.00 (+ plaque)
  2nd Prize AUD 100.00 (+ certificate)

In the case of co-authored papers, the prize money shall be divided equally among the authors.
