Awards for Research Project Work - Fourth Year Students
Purpose of the Awards
The purpose of the fourth year research project work awards is:
(a) To recognise excellence in fourth year research project work;
(b) To encourage students to present their fourth year research project work in an exhibition display format in a professional manner;
(c) To assist industry to learn about the fourth year research project work being done at the Schools of Information Technologies and Electrical and Information Engineering;
(d) To involve industry in judging the content, relevance and presentation of the work
Selection Procedure 2008
(a) About a week before the Conversazione academic staff will select up to three fourth year research projects in each project category selected for inclusion in the combined School of Electrical and Information Engineering / School of Information Technologies Research Conversazione. The categories will be determined by offers of sponsorship.
(b) Industry guests at the Research Conversazione will be invited to rank the projects in each category as follows:
1 is the best, 2 is the second best and 3 is the third best in their opinion.
Guests will be asked to limit their marking to categories in which they have expertise. Guests will be asked to take into account the following elements when making their adjudication:
* The quality of the research (a 50% weighting);
* The quality of the presentation (25%);
* The relevance of the project to industry's needs (25%).
(c) The rankings received from all the guests who participate in judging a category will be aggregated and the student who receives the highest aggregate ranking will be declared the winner.
(d) In the event of more than one student receiving the highest aggregate score, each of the students receiving the highest aggregate score will be declared to be a shared winner of the award and the cash award will be divided equally among the winners.
Presentation of Prizes
An interim presentation of the awards will be made at the Research Conversazione. The final certificate and the cheque for the award amount will be prepared and made available to the recipients after the event.

$250 accompanied by a certificate.
